The bagpipe practice chanter is a double reed instrument utilized as a preparatory option for the Great Highland Bagpipe. Firstly, the practice chanter necessitates significantly less air and is considerably easier to blow than a complete set of pipes, making it an ideal choice for beginners to acquire proper fingering and fundamental playing techniques. Once proficient in these skills, beginners can progress to using a full set of pipes. Secondly, a practice chanter operates at a considerably lower volume compared to a set of bagpipes, rendering it more suitable for indoor practice, even for experienced players. Additionally, it presents the advantage of being easier to tune and maintain than a full bagpipe.
This practice chanter is meticulously handcrafted from solid ROSEWOOD and adorned with a matte black finish. It features a black plastic mouthpiece. Upon assembly, the practice chanter measures approximately 19 inches in length, and a practice chanter reed is included. The finger hole spacing is comparable to that of a full drone pipe, with the lower two holes spaced slightly closer. It is tuned to the key of B flat.
It is important to note that while the practice chanter includes a reed, it should be replaced regularly.
