Description
The Cuica, also known as a puita, boi, or onca, is a plated metal instrument with a goatskin head. Originating from Africa, it is particularly associated with Brazilian Samba music. The instrument’s name is derived from the sound it produces, which closely resembles the roar of a female lioness. This unique characteristic has led to its use as a call for male lions in African savannas. While the Cuica may not physically resemble a lion, its ability to generate captivating sounds makes it a versatile instrument in various musical genres.
