This exquisite Grace model is a recent addition to our MID-EAST Mountain Dulcimer collection. It boasts several notable features:
Strings: The model features four strings, including two melody strings, one middle string, and one bass drone string.
Hourglass Shape: The body of the dulcimer is elegantly shaped like an hourglass, enhancing its resonance and sound quality.
Vaulted Fret Board: The fret board is designed with a vaulted profile, making it lighter and allowing for increased soundboard vibration, resulting in a richer and more expressive sound.
Spruce Soundboard: The soundboard is crafted from spruce, a renowned wood for its exceptional sound transmission properties. It features a charming walnut skirt design on both ends and four classic F-shaped sound holes.
Tuners: The dulcimer is equipped with four mechanical geared right-angle tuners, each with a 14:1 tuning ratio, ensuring precise tuning.
Nut and Bridge: The nut is made from walnut and has a width of 1.25 inches, while the bridge is crafted from the same material and maintains a consistent width of 1.25 inches at the body joint.
Traditionally, mountain dulcimers were constructed with three strings, evenly spaced, comprising a melody string, a middle string, and a bass string. Later developments introduced the four-string dulcimer by altering the string spacing and doubling the melody string. This modification increased the volume of the melody line, a characteristic often sought after in contemporary dulcimers.
The Grace model offers the flexibility to customize string patterns by adding additional notches on the nut. The interior doubled melody string can be completely removed to revert to the traditional three-string configuration. Alternatively, the interior melody string and the middle string can be moved over one notch to create equal spacing between all four strings.
