Description
A beautifully decorated Afghani Rebab, crafted with intricate inlay, carvings, and a goatskin soundboard, features six main strings and a movable bridge with 13 sympathetic strings. Its length is approximately 36-38 inches.
The Rebab belongs to the lute family. Traditionally, it is carved from a single piece of mulberry wood. The neck and upper body are hollow and covered with a thin layer of wood, while the lower body, the resonating chamber, is covered with goatskin. The three main playing strings are typically tuned a fourth apart, with the strings tuned from low to high as C#, F#, and B. Additionally, there are 12 to 16 sympathetic strings that are tuned to match the raga being played. The instrument has three tied-on frets near the top of the neck, while the rest of the fingerboard is fretless.
