The Grace model is a recent addition to our MID-EAST Mountain Dulcimer line, featuring several notable design elements.
Stringing: The model comprises four strings: two melody strings, one middle string, and one bass drone string. The strings are crafted from high-quality materials, ensuring exceptional sound quality.
Aesthetics and Design: The Grace model boasts a distinctive hourglass shape and a solid rosewood body, neck, nut, bridge, and fretboard. The tailpiece is adorned with a silver crown, and the spruce soundboard features a charming rosewood skirt design on both ends, complemented by four rose openings.
Tuning: The model is equipped with four mechanical geared right-angle tuners, providing a 14:1 tuning ratio. This allows for easy tuning and maintenance.
Historical Evolution: Traditionally, mountain dulcimers had three strings, equally spaced, comprising a melody string, a middle string, and a bass string. Later developments introduced a four-string dulcimer by altering the string spacing and doubling the melody string. This modification enhanced the volume of the melody line. Contemporary dulcimers, such as the Grace model, offer additional notches on the nut, enabling users to customize string patterns. The interior doubled melody string can be completely removed to revert to the traditional three-string configuration. Alternatively, the interior melody string and the middle string can be moved over one notch to create equal spacing between all four strings.
