The robust ROSEWOOD body of this eight-string lyre complements its soft and gentle curves. The eight metal strings produce a classical sound that is further enhanced by the lacewood soundboard.
The lyre can be held upright on one’s lap or while walking, allowing for plucking of both sides of the strings. Alternatively, it can be laid flat for plucking. Dimensions: 10 inches wide by 17 inches long, with a depth of 2.75 inches.
Several tuning suggestions are provided:
Judaic Worship Music Tuning: This authentic tuning originates from Judaic worship music, where the instrument accompanied the singing of the Chazzan, also known as a Cantor. This style of tuning utilizes the Chazzanut mode.
Ahava Raba Mode: Begin by tuning the bass strings (largest strings) in the following pattern: E F G# A B C D E (Ahava Raba mode).
Klezmer Music Tuning: Emerging in the early Middle Ages in Eastern Europe, Klezmer music originated from the secularization of Jewish worship music. Jewish troubadours, known as klezmorim, incorporated Klezmer music into weddings and other joyous events. Klezmer music eventually blended with Slavonic, Greek, Turkish, Gypsy, and even American jazz tempos and rhythms. For Klezmer music, try the Misheberakh mode: E F# G A# B C# D E.
Natural Minor Tuning: Another alternative tuning that harmonizes well with singers comfortable singing in the Key of G is E F# G A B C D E (Natural minor). In this tuning, all notes are the same, but the instrument begins on D rather than E.
